Will Lucknow Super Giants retain KL Rahul in IPL 2025?
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), KL Rahul served as the captain for Lucknow Super Giants for three seasons. Under his leadership, the team made it to the playoffs in two out of three seasons.
However, a controversy arose when the team suffered a significant defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2024 IPL season, leading to criticism from the franchise owner. This incident was captured on camera, and the resulting video went viral, sparking speculation about Rahul’s future with Lucknow Super Giants.
Reports emerged suggesting that KL Rahul might depart from the team and join the Royal Challengers Bangaluru. It’s worth noting that Rahul has previously been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangaluru franchise from 2013 to 2016. Notably, he has shown interest in rejoining RCB.
In his tenure with Lucknow Super Giants, he showcased exceptional performance by amassing 616 runs in 15 matches, establishing himself as the team’s top run-scorer. His outstanding achievement positioned him as the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2022. Notably, during the previous IPL season, he notched up 520 runs in 14 matches, securing the seventh position among the leading run-getters in the tournament and emerging as the top run-scorer for his team.
Consequently, there is a strong likelihood that Lucknow Super Giants might opt to retain him for the upcoming IPL season. If they fail to retain KL Rahul, other franchises like seeking an Indian player may consider recruiting him to strengthen their squad.
