An Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket franchise side, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The 2008-founded team competes in its home games at Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.

India Cement Limited, the holding company of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, owns the team. Because of the team’s owners’ involvement in the 2013 IPL betting controversy, the franchise was banned from the IPL for two years beginning in July 2015.

However, it won the title in its 2018 return season. MS Dhoni serves as the team’s captain, and Stephen Fleming is the head coach. In addition to possessing the highest victory percentage (58.98%) among all IPL teams, the Super Kings have won the league’s championship four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021).

Dhoni the face of Chennai Super Kings

Dhoni was signed by Chennai Super Kings for $1.5 million in 2008. But the batsman who had only a year earlier led the Indian team to victory in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup wasn’t just of interest to CSK.

Mumbai Indians presented a strong challenge to CSK, but the franchise owner N Srinivasan had a strategy in place more specifically, a mathematical one that gave him the advantage.

They have made the most playoff appearances (eleven) and IPL Final appearances (nine), respectively. Under Dhoni’s leadership, the team has subsequently advanced to 11 playoffs, made it to the final nine times, and captured the elusive trophy four times.

Which is the Home Ground of CSK?

The iconic M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, also known as “The Chepauk,” is the home field of the Super Kings and is situated in Chennai. The stadium bears M. A. Chidambaram’s name, a former president of the BCCI.

The oldest stadium in India still in regular use is this one. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association owns the stadium, which as of May 2013 could accommodate 50,000 spectators.

What is the Theme of Chennai Super Kings?

The CSK’s theme anthem is “Whistle Podu,” a composition by Aravind-Shankar. Even though the song was initially made for YouTube in 2008, it got famous throughout the 2009 campaign and eventually became the team’s anthem.

The street dance known as dappangutthu, which is particularly popular among some communities in Tamil Nadu, is depicted in the song’s music video. Tamil movie also uses this style of music and dancing. In the song video, whistling by some Super Kings players was captured on tape.
