Indian batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav scored a match-winning 69-run inning in the third and final T20I of the three-match series against Australia. During his 36-ball outing, the right-handed batsman hit five boundaries and as many maximums. He also overtook a Nepali cricketer with his performance to take the top spot in 2022 for runs scored in T20 Internationals.

After scripting India’s 6-wicket victory over Australia in Hyderabad in the third and final T20I of the three-match home series, star Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav became the best run-scorer in T20I this year on Sunday.

With five fours and as many sixes in his entertaining innings for the Men in Blue against the current T20 World Cup champions, the right-handed batsman was in fine form. As a result of his exceptional batting performance, he received the Player of the Match award.

With his 69-run inning on Sunday, Suryakumar edged Dipendra Singh Airee of Nepal to claim the title of top scorer in T20I games this year. The Mumbaikar presently has 682 runs from 20 matches. He has been India’s finest batter by a wide margin this year in T20Is, scoring four fifties and one hundred.

In February, Surya played in all three of the matches against the West Indies to open the year, but he was forced to withdraw from the home series against Sri Lanka due to an injury. He suffered an injury in the IPL’s final stages that prevented him from being chosen for the five-match home series against South Africa in June.

In the third game of the series in Nottingham, he made his comeback against Ireland before scoring his first T20I century (117 off 55 balls) against England.

Surya batted as an opener in the first four matches against the West Indies in the Caribbean islands, and he hit 76 runs in the third game to demonstrate that he can play big innings as an opener if the team needs him to.

He scored 68 runs against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup while being unbeaten after only 26 balls, but he was ineffective in the other games. After scoring 46 in the first game of the series, he made 69 in the series finale to seal India’s victory. And then, finally, against Australia, he was back in his element.

In light of the T20 World Cup starting in three weeks, Surya’s performance is extremely encouraging for India. In March 2021, the batter from the Mumbai Indians made his international debut for India against England. Within his first 18 months, he had already created a name for himself as one of the team’s most reliable hitters.
