Samson Is Asset For RR, His Retention Is A No-Brainer: Sangakkara

The Rajasthan Royals retained 3 players ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, likes of captain Sanju Samson, star English batsman Jos Buttler, and rising performer Yashasvi Jaiswal. Regarding the team’s 3 retentions, RR’s director Kumar Sangakkara remarked that having Samson was a “no-brainer” and that he has been their “long-term captain.”

It should be mentioned that, while RR did not have a successful IPL 2021 season, Samson had a fantastic season with the bat, scoring 484 runs in 14 matches and average over 40.00. Sangakkara went on to say that the Kerala cricketer is a terrific player who would continue to be a valuable addition to the team. RR has secured Samson for INR 14 crore.

“We worked really hard in terms of working with our newly-formed data analytic team, with the help of all our partners in India and in the US, we finally decided, of course, Sanju Samson, it was a no-brainer in terms of being our captain, number one. He is going to be the long-term leader of this unit of Rajasthan Royals. He is an exceptional player and he has shown time and time again what a wonderful asset he has been for RR,” said Kumar Sangakkara.

Proceeding on in their retaining list, star batsman Jos Buttler was retained as the second choice for INR 10 crore. Uncapped Yashasvi Jaiswal secured the 3rd retention position, becoming the second-youngest player to be retained among teams before the mega-auction. The Sri Lankan legend lauded Jaiswal, describing him as a quick learner, dedicated worker, and key player.

“We have retained Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young Indian opener, an absolute star in the making, he had a very very good season pre-retention, extremely talented. He is a very very quick learner, he is a hard worker and he will be our uncapped retention,” added Sangakkara on RR’s young prospect Yashasvi Jaiswal
