Raina Reveals How MS Dhoni Supported Him During Severe Injury

The bromance of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina is visible to everyone as Raina was an integral part of the Indian team under Dhoni’s captaincy. Also, both the players shared the same dressing room in the Indian Premier League. Both Indian batsmen have shared a total of 3 IPL trophies and Suresh Raina was the match-winner in all three years. Suresh Raina was a great asset for the Indian team with his all-around performance on the field and with the bat too.

Getting along even before their debut in the same year, both were seen together on many occasions and they’re known as great friends on and off the field. In December 2004, Dhoni made his debut and in August 2005 Raina made his. In a recent interview, Suresh Raina has revealed how Dhoni used to take care of and support him during the tough phase of his career. Suresh Raina recalled the incident in 2007 when he was injured and had surgery.

‘I did not play for one and a half years’: Raina

“When I was injured in 2007, he only told me that you’re too young to have surgery. Just take your time. He wasn’t even the captain then but he was telling me things. I did not play for one and a half years due to the knee injury and every second day he was checking on me, asking me what did the doctors say and what is the solution,” Raina said.

Raina was supposed to be the part of 2007 world cup but the serious injury ruled him out of the tournament and he was on bed rest for a long six months. Dhoni was with him during the bad times of Suresh Raina.

“As a player, teammate, brother, he was always very keen to know. So that really inspired me that I would represent India soon. I thought I needed to work hard on my game, my knee. I didn’t know if I would ever play for India again,” the former India batsman added.

The bromance lasted so long that both decided to retire on the same day of Indian independence i.e. 15th August.
