Pakistani power hitter Mohammad Rizwan who is currently creating waves in Pakistan
Pakistan’s current Sensation
Rizwan, a limited over batsman but a technically good wicketkeeper when he first ascended through the ranks, made his debut for his country shortly after the 2015 World Cup when the position behind the posts was still up for grabs.
His batting average in his first eight innings was close to 60 against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, giving him a promising start. However, when facing more difficult opposition, his flaws were rapidly made apparent.
Early Start
Since making his debut on Pakistan’s domestic circuit more than ten years ago, Rizwan has consistently competed in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy while playing for the wildly successful SNGPL team, leading his team to three titles in the last four years. A single Test cap in 2016 seems a little underwhelming as compensation for that. His consistency and solidity at the top of the order turned a Pakistan weakness into a Pakistan strength. As one of Pakistan’s most prized players going into the World T20 in 2021, Rizwan currently seems to be at the prime of his career. He is also ranked the number one batsman in the T20 format.
Recent Performance
While Babar Azam has scored 194 runs in his previous 5 innings, Rizwan has scored 315 runs in five of the seven-match series against England so far. Rizwan still hasn’t played in the other two games.
No1 T20 Batsman
However, Mohammad Rizwan overcame him to take the top spot. On September 25, Rizwan reached his highest rating score of 861. Suryakumar Yadav, who is in second place and with a T20I average and strike rate of 39.04 and 173.35 respectively, is 80 points behind him in the standings.
Babar Azam and Md Rizwan Duo
The two just set a T20I record by scoring 2000 runs together. Even though Pakistan’s middle order has long been a target, it has been difficult to blame the team’s starting hitters.
Pakistan’s Hopes
Pakistan would be counting on the batters Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam to do well in the next T20I CWC as they are both in the prime of their careers. On October 24, 2022, Pakistan will face off against India in the first match of the ICC T20I CWC.
