Mohammed Shami is just a replacement or a remedy
Shami’s Return to the Squad
Before the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, has already arrived in Australia and defeated Australia in the first warm-up game by a score of six runs. The T20 World Cup will begin later this month. Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement has not yet been formally confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, hence India only brought 14 players to the match (BCCI).
Bumrah’s Injury
Due to a back ailment, Bumrah will not participate in the T20 World Cup in 2022. It will be quite difficult to find a suitable alternative for the fast bowler now that he isn’t playing in the event. Bumrah’s replacement could have been announced right away by the BCCI to guarantee that the player traveled to Australia with the rest of the team, but the selectors preferred to take their time.
Wonderful Last over
Shami was called up to bowl the last over of the first warm-up match, where Australia needed 11 runs from the last six balls. Shami was bowling his first over of the game and it shocked everyone and bowled really well in order to restrict Australia from chasing down the target. Shami picked up three wickets, one run out, and gave away only 4 fours helping India win the match in the final over.
Shami T20 stats
Shami hasn’t participated in a T20I match since the World Cup when he represented India as their new ball bowler. Only 17 T20Is have been played by him since his 2014 debut against Pakistan, but he has a strong ODI record in Australia with 22 wickets at an average of 26.63.
What to expect from Shami
India will expect Shami to play a key role in the main fixture of the T20 World Cup and will hope that Shami bowls really well in the final overs and the powerplay. India is comparatively in a tough group and if India wants to win the silverware then the bowlers must perform. Shami with his form from the Warm-up match against Australia will look to build his confidence and contribute in a valuable manner.
