Rizwan is now the third Pakistani batter to hold the top spot in the T20I rankings. Babar Azam and Misbah-ul-Haq have both successfully scaled this milestone in the past. Babar, a fellow countryman, had occupied the top spot for 1155 days of his career before Rizwan ended it.

In the group round matches against India and Hong Kong, Mohammad Rizwan had been Pakistan’s lone savior, scoring 78* and 71* respectively, and aiding his country in securing back-to-back victories. Rizwan has surpassed Babar and currently holds the top spot in the T20I rankings as a result of his brilliant performance. Rizwan is now the third Pakistani batter to hold the top spot in the T20I rankings.

While guiding Pakistan at the Asia Cup, the captain has had limited success at the plate thus far. He has scored 10, 9, and 14 runs in the first three games of the competition. Additionally, his standing in the most recent ICC T20I Rankings has suffered as a result of a spate of subpar performances.

He has since fallen to the second position, and his countryman and opening partner Mohammad Rizwan has taken his place. Throughout the Asia Cup 2022, the wicketkeeper-batsman has been in outstanding form. With 192 runs in 3 games, he now has the most runs scored in the competition.

After the match against India Mohammad Rizwan stated that “The whole world is watching this match. This game is as valuable as a final. Every player will try to go give his 100%. The plan, as always, was to score against the new ball with one of us (himself and Babar Azam) batting long. I tried to stay till the end. We know our strengths, we have depth in our batting, and we have power-hitters who are capable of hitting around 45 runs off the last four overs. So we didn’t panic.”

Pakistan will now face Afghanistan in the Super4 clash on Wednesday and if they manage to defeat Afghanistan then it is sure that Pakistan will qualify for the final of the Asia Cup where they will face Sri Lanka.
