KL Rahul Premium choice as an opener
KL Rahul is thought of as India’s top opener, and the top batsman is embracing judicial scrutiny of his batting displays as the ICC World T20 tournament approaches. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has spoken out in favor of the under-fire batter after considering Rahul’s performance against Australia in the just concluded T20I series.
Rahul did, however, show signs of regaining his form by scoring 55 runs off 35 balls in the opening T20I matchup against Australia at Mohali. At the beginning of the innings, Rahul batted quickly to put the pressure back on the Australian bowlers during the powerplay. He was rewarded for the strategy.
Rahul, however, only managed to score 10 and 1 in the second and third T20I. Sunil Gavaskar is certain that Rahul would be well by the time he travels to Australia for the T20 World Cup despite the Karnataka batsman’s patchy recent performance.
Gavaskar stated on Star Sports that “Rahul was doing what the team wanted him to do. In the first match, you saw him hitting a fifty. The second match was just eight overs and you didn’t have time to set up. He attempted a shot with the very first ball and lost the wicket. He sacrificed his wicket for the team.”
Rahul has demonstrated his talent in the Indian Premier League over the past three seasons, playing for RCB, Punjab Kings, and most recently LSG.
After a layoff, he returned to the national team following an injury, although it took him some time to regain his touch. Rahul played several excellent shots throughout the Asia Cup, but he was not as consistent as the fans would have expected in terms of his recent consistency.
KL Rahul will once again be the vice-captain of the Indian team, as he is likely to be picked as the opener. This is despite his tipsy form in recent times, where he has been on and off at times and has failed to leave his mark, since his return from injury.
