KKR Coach McCullum Praises Umesh Yadav As ‘Incredibly Fit’
Umesh Yadav, an experienced Indian bowler, has always been on fire in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, causing hitters to struggle. In Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) first 2 matches, versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the 34-year-old made the new ball talk. He scored early in both games and was named Player-of-the-Match versus CSK.
Despite KKR losing the match versus RCB by 3 wickets, Umesh astonished everyone. Up to this point, he has 4 wickets in 2 games, with all of them coming in powerplay overs. Undoubtedly, the KKR would want to see the speedy maintain his incredible run as the event proceeds. Furthermore, KKR head coach Brendon McCullum is quite delighted with Umesh’s performance, which he mentioned after KKR’s loss to RCB.
Umesh’s brief is very much to try and take wickets for us: McCullum
“Umesh Yadav has been simply outstanding. I was lucky enough to play with Umesh when I was still playing the game back then and I knew how good a bloke he was and how much of a talent he was, especially with hee new ball if there was assistance,” said McCullum.
McCullum went on to say that Umesh has indeed been given the freedom to go after wickets rather than focusing well on run flow. “His brief is very much to try and take wickets for us. If he goes for a few runs, we don’t care, we just want to have the attacking mentality. In two games, he has done more than we could have asked for,” added the 40-year-old.
McCullum stated that even though the Vidharbha bowler is towards the end of his career, he is still healthy and eager. “I know he is closer to the end of his career. But he is still incredibly fit, very very driven and we see him as a huge asset for us, especially in the early stages of the tournament when the ball is still swinging and seaming,” added the former New Zealand coach.
