“It would take “relevant and appropriate action” after offensive historical tweets from other England players began circulating on social media”, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Tuesday.
“The group of players we have now is very much committed to moving the game forward, to making it a better place, making it more inclusive and educating ourselves further”.
“We’re going to have to front up to what has happened, but ultimately we want to move forward in a really positive way, to keep going on this journey we’ve started of trying to better our sport.” Joe Root said
“I think that will be proven in the actions that we take following through in the rest of the year,” he said.
“This is just the start of things in many ways. We are committed to making positive change in the sport and… we’re not saying that we are perfect in that we’ve never made mistakes, but we do want to make it a better place.” He added.
“We will continue to keep wearing those shirts,” Root added. “We will continue to keep finding ways to educate ourselves as players and as a group, and we will continue to find ways of bettering our sport and ways to action that throughout this summer and beyond.
“As a team we will continue to talk about it because it’s important but as professionals, we know we have a job to do this week. Our full focus is preparing for that Test match and making sure by the start of the game that we certainly have used the last two days to prepare ourselves as well as we could.” He concluded.
Olly Stone will be an ideal replacement for Olie Robinson for the upcoming test match while New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson will be rested before the WTC finals because of a shoulder injury and in his absence, Tom Latham will be leading the Kiwis side.
