English speed merchant James Anderson has backed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) player rotation policy. ECB’s newly introduced scheme allows the English players to have enough rest to cope with their busy schedule this year. However, many former English players criticised this newly introduced policy as they cited it to be the reason behind England’s 1–3 Test series loss against India.

Nevertheless, 39-year-old Anderson has reasoned out the policy by saying that the players must have proper rest between intervals to ensure their mental and physical fitness. Anderson also added that England will rotate more players in the upcoming Test series against India.

“The five Tests against India might be a different story with back-to-backs in quite quick succession. That might be where people get rotated a bit more. The rotation in the winter was completely understandable with the amount of cricket we had and the amount of time in bubbles that we were spending,” Anderson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “It’s going to be slightly different this summer. If everything goes well, I think it will start to get relaxed. We won’t be in the sort of bubble life that we’ve experienced in the last 12 months. So there might be not as much reason to rest people,” he added.
