It Is A Huge Moment In MS Dhoni’s Life: Laxmipathy Balaji
As former Indian captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, the world came to a standstill. While supporters all around the globe were unhappy and even experts began to predict what would be the future consequences on Team India. In a similar vein, CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji discussed Dhoni’s quiet attitude and how he approached things in a straightforward manner.
I did not realize that Dhoni had already announced his retirement: Balaji
Balaji went on to say that when Dhoni made this major choice, he met with him on a frequent basis. The whole CSK team was in the UAE, preparing for another IPL season. The coach said that the CSK captain casually discussed about the pitch and that he has ordered the groundsman to add more water to the pitch.
“After practice gets over, I normally talk a lot to Dhoni about the wicket, about practicing, and playing conditions. That day, I finished practice and I went inside. I did not realize that he had already put his retirement message at 7:29 pm”.
“So, after posting the message, Dhoni walked up to me as usual and he casually told me that he had asked the groundsman to water the ground extra for the pitch. I said okay. And I didn’t realize anything,” said Lakshmipathy Balaji.
Dhoni’s uniqueness is in the way he remains detached: Balaji
Balaji went on to say that it was a significant moment in his life, perhaps the most important, yet he kept it very simple and low-key. In reality, according to the bowling coach, Dhoni’s uniqueness rests in his ability to remain distant. He made the point that no matter what happens, large or small, Dhoni keeps his word and goes about his job in his own way.
It was a huge moment in his life. But, just like that, he moved on, and that’s Dhoni for you. Then I finally realized he announced his retirement. It took some time for me to sink at the moment. Dhoni’s uniqueness is in the way he remains detached. He will never stop no matter what the situation is, and moves on in his own style,” Balaji added.
