Former Indian opening batter, Wasim Jaffer has departed as Punjab Kings’ batting coach. The senior made the headlines prior to the IPL 2022 mega auction, and he did so in his own unique fashion. He shared a funny meme starring Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor. The comment section quickly became filled with netizens congratulating Jaffer on his stay with the franchise.

And for the uninitiated, Jaffer was the 1st player to appear in 150 Ranji Trophy games, representing the then-Kings XI Punjab in 2019 and working closely with the support personnel until the 2021 edition. He then teamed up with Anil Kumble, the franchise’s cricket operations and head coach.

KL Rahul chose to split his way from Punjab Kings

The 8 existing teams were given a total of 4 retentions before the auctions, however, the Kings only used 2 of their cards. Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh have retained for INR 12 crore & INR 4 crore, accordingly.

Kumble said during the retention session that the team preferred to continue their former captain KL Rahul, however, the hitter chose to split the ways. He will now captain the Lucknow Super Giants, for which he was paid INR 17 crore. Rahul has captained the Kings for the previous two seasons. As a result, it will be intriguing to see who will be the team’s future captain.

Many believe that Mayank, who has been with the team since 2018, can be handed the responsibility. Furthermore, the IPL 2022 blockbuster auction will be a two-day bidding event hosted in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. A total of 590 players are slated to be auctioned off.
