Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians’ standout batter, will be absent for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 beginning match versus Delhi Capitals (DC). The eagerly anticipated match is set to take place on March 27 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. But, it appears that the five-time winners would be missing their traditional no.3 batsman, Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar Likely To Miss MI’s Opening Match!

According to reports, the 31-year-old is still recovering from a hairline injury on his thumb. He suffered the injury last month during the T20I series against the West Indies. He was later pulled out of the T20I series versus Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that the dasher is now receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, there are some doubts about his involvement in the first match.

Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation

“Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch-and-go affair,” a senior BCCI source.

Suryakumar is among four players retained by the franchise before the IPL 2022 blockbuster auction. “So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board’s medical team to not risk playing the opener,” he added.

Suryakumar was acquired by the MI in the 2018 IPL auction and featured for them for 4 seasons, scoring 1733 runs in 50 IPL matches. Suryakumar is a fantastic stroke player who has kept MI’s batting line-up balanced, although he had a bad season in which he scored 317 runs in 14 games. However, the team has demonstrated its trust in his abilities by relying on his hitting abilities.

As a result, MI must have great expectations from the dashing batsman. Suryakumar is almost expected to play in Mumbai Indians’ second match versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 2. “I think by the second MI game, he would be 100 percent match fit. It is likely to be more of a precautionary measure if he doesn’t play the first game,” said the insider.

It should be remembered that Suryakumar has been on a rampage recently and will be crucial to MI’s achievement.
