‘I Love His Work Ethic’ Wasim Akram Praises Babar Azam Efforts
Former Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram has lavished praise on current skipper Babar Azam. The renowned bowler went on to say that the twenty-first century belonged to Babar, under whom Pakistan cricket thrives and shines.
Babar, who is now positioned in the top ten in the ICC ranking list for all 3 formats, recently led his side to a 3–0 home win over the West Indies. Furthermore, Akram believes that Babar has far more to accomplish and that his present form is just the beginning of something really greater in waiting for the 27-year-old.
Babar Azam came through the proper ranks: Wasim Akram
Akram, a game icon out of his own position, lauded Babar’s tireless dedication also praising him for his continuous desire to succeed.
“He came through the proper ranks, I have worked with him in Karachi Kings as well from last three years. I love his work ethic, he is focused and he’s never satisfied with his performance and that’s a sign of a good leader. I knew at the time, with this boy, with his work ethic, with his talent, he will definitely perform and be consistent,” said Wasim.
“And now he’s the part of Fab four. [Virat] Kohli, [David] Warner, [Joe] Root, and Babar is now getting high on top. Kohli is up there with Babar,” he added.
He also compared Babar to Pakistan’s earlier legends, saying: “You see if you talk about Pakistan batting, you start with Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousaf and then now it’s Babar Azam. The 21st century belongs to Babar Azam, he’s the man. And he’s still got plenty in him,” he added.
Babar guided Pakistan to the 2021 T20 WC semi-finals previously this year in the UAE, when the Asian team won all 5 of its Super12 matches, notably, victories against India and New Zealand. Unfortunately, due to a defect in the crucial battle versus Australia, Pakistan was unable to go to the final. However, Babar had a fantastic year in 2021 as a batsman and a captain.
