Australian star batsman Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the ongoing series against West Indies. Finch has injured his knee during the final T20I game against Windies on 17th July at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia.

Finch’s health condition is thoroughly monitored by the health officials and based on his current state — Cricket Australia has officially announced his absence and announced Alex Carey as the new skipper for the Australian side.

Speaking about the new role Alex Carey said — “I am deeply honored to be able to lead the team while Aaron recovers. To the captain, Australia is one of the greatest privileges in sport and honour I am extremely thankful to receive,”

He has also added — “Finchy is our captain and we will welcome him back with open arms when he is fully fit, so for now I hope I can fill the role to his extremely high standards. To lead this group against the West Indies in the West Indies is a great challenge and one I very much look forward to for as long as I have the opportunity,”

Earlier Carey has experience of leading Adelaide Steiker in BBL and he was also a joint vice-captain of the Australian limited over setup along with Pat Cummins. In the last season, Alex Carey had to face a lot of criticism from the former Australian player Allan Border, when he has led Australia A against India at Sydney Cricket Ground.

And speaking about that particular incident Carey Said — “My takeaway is that there’s a lot of really great leaders throughout the country still caring about the game of cricket. For him to answer my call and have a chat about what he saw, was a great learning curve for me.”

The three-match ODI series between Australia and West Indies will start from July 21st, 2021 at Barbados.
