Jos Buttler, a hard-hitting wicketkeeper and batsman, is said to have all the tools necessary to excel in the game’s shorter formats. At the Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 levels, he played for Somerset’s young teams, which was his early introduction to competitive cricket.
In both school and junior cricket, he was a prolific run-scorer, and his steady batting helped him rise through the ranks fast. He soon played for Somerset’s second XI and was regarded as a promising short-format player.
In 2011, 2012, and 2014, respectively, Buttler made his debuts in T20I, ODI, and Test cricket. He participated in the 2019 Cricket World Cup victory for England by making the crucial run out in the last Super Over. He was appointed captain of England’s limited-overs teams in June 2022.
Jos Buttler has played 99 T20I matches so far in his career and has scored 2359 runs at a strike rate of 143.58.
Although England has had numerous players throughout the years who have received international recognition, Jos Buttler is probably their first Twenty20 world-class player.
Buttler’s contributions with the bat and the gloves were essential to England’s Super-Over victory in the final and his impact on the one-day and T20 teams was extraordinary as they turned a World Cup group-stage exit in 2015 into a victory on home soil four years later. Buttler aided in modernising England’s limited-overs batting.
Buttler participated in the opening ODI of a three-match series against the Netherlands on June 17, 2022. His personal best ODI performance of 162 not out in 70 balls, which is 154, helped England reach 498 runs, the greatest ODI total ever. Buttler finished that game with 150 runs in 65 balls, the second-fastest total in ODI cricket history, one ball behind AB De Villiers.
On June 30, 2022, he was named England’s ODI and 20-over captain after Eoin Morgan announced his retirement.
