Dropping Azam And Ruining His Confidence Is Purely ‘Unfair’: Nazar

Former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar has requested a resignation letter from chief selector Mohammad Wasim in response to the injustices for excluding Azam Khan. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released the modified 15-man team for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Haider Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Fakhar Zaman were chosen for the team and excluded Mohammad Hasnain, Azam Khan, and Khushdil Shah.

PCB first revealed its 15-member lineup, which sparked heated debate among experts, analysts, and supporters. Several former Pakistan cricketers were dissatisfied with the choice of a few inexperienced players in the squad over a few professionals. Despite debates, the PCB has restored experience and has included Zaman and Ahmed in the major event.

Nazar is dissatisfied with the outcome and believes Azam Khan has been let down by the selecting committee. “Azam Khan was made fun of for his selection. After that, the selection committee has decided to drop him and ruin his confidence. This is unfair treatment,” said Nazar.

The former Pakistan all-rounder went on to say that if the committee did such a severe U-turn, their initial pick was incorrect in the 1st instance. “There is no doubt that Pakistan’s team has strengthened following the changes but that does not mean Azam Khan deserved this treatment. I think Shahnawaz Dahani should have also been included,” Nazar added.

Azam Khan came to popularity in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) owing to his six-hitting ability. Afterward, he was named to the Pakistan squad for a limited-overs tour of England and the West Indies. During the West Indies tour, he suffered from an injury that interrupted his journey. And now, after being named to the official 15-man T20 World Cup team, he has been omitted.

Aside from Azam Khan, the officials have placed Khushdil Shah as the backup and removed Mohammad Hasnain from the team. The addition of Zaman and Ahmed strengthens the batting order. The pair also adds a wealth of expertise to the unit. Haider Ali was chosen for the team because of his scoring ability swiftly.
