BCB Questions Shakib Al Hasan’s Commitment
Initially, Shakib Al Hasan has refused to play a Test series against South Africa as the player wanted to make himself available for the Indian Premier League IPL 2022 edition. But shockingly he went unsold in the recent IPL Mega Auctions 2022 and none of the franchises have shown interest to at least buy him for his base price.
And last month BCB has announced the ODI and Test Squad for the South Africa Tour but the experienced southpaw has refused to be a part of that Tour. He was very specific about his reasons and said that he was feeling overburdened with his regular International schedule and he wanted a break from it.
In a recent interview Shakib said — “I think it is logical to think that if he was in a poor physical and mental state, he wouldn’t have given his name in the IPL (auction). But he went ahead with it. So, does it mean that if he got his IPL contract, he would have said the same thing? We can’t do anything if he doesn’t want to play (for Bangladesh).”
He has also added — “But he can’t keep saying I will play this game, I won’t play that game. We are soft on those who we love, but they also have to be professional. Otherwise, we will have to make decisions that no one will like,”
The star Bangladesh all-rounder has expressed that he is both mentally & physically exhausted and also said that he is not ready to play an international series.
Shakib has also said — “Considering my mental and physical state, I don’t think I can play so much international cricket. If I get a break, if I get my interest back, I can play with more ease. I was like a passenger in the Afghanistan series, which is never desirable,”
“I didn’t enjoy the ODIs and T20Is. I don’t think I should be on the South Africa tour with such a mentality. I want to meet everyone’s expectations when I am playing. There’s no guarantee of my best performance, but at least I will know that I tried hardest for the country. I don’t want to waste the time or someone’s spot.” — He said.
It was very shocking to see such a star player is lying on the unsold player’s list and probably this is a concerning factor for him. Everyone from the cricket universe feels that he has refused to play the international series only because of his disappointment for not being picked by any IPL side.
