Tim David was run out in the nineteenth over. In order to go for a run, Josh Inglis tucked a fuller delivery from Harshal Patel to the right of mid-wicket. Tim David reacted as he should have, but Kohli’s blazing pace outran him. The former captain of India promptly took up the ball and struck the target in the keeper’s end. Replays revealed David was much outside of his crease as he left the field immediately following Harshal’s removal of Finch.
If Kohli’s spectacular throw wasn’t impressive enough, he started everyone in the next over by taking a one-hand screamer close to the long-on boundary Shami lofted a full-length delivery from Pat Cummins but Kohli pounced on the ball with a superb leap before it could pass the boundary. His grab was so amazing that the Australian dug out applauded it.
Australian tails fell victim to Mohammad Shami’s brilliance with 11 runs needed off the final over. Shami had recently joined the Indian team as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. He struck out four successive times to remove the Australians after giving up four runs in the first two deliveries. He just bowled one over during the practice game, but it was all the world champs needed to get going.
India will next face New Zealand in their next practice game at the same venue on Wednesday.
